Instructions For Unit 18--THE LORD'S PRAYER

Learn the six following facts:

1.  Jesus Himself gave us the Lord's Prayer

2.  The Lord's Prayer is divided into:

a.  An Introduction

b.  Seven Petitions (Requests)

c.  A Conclusion

3.  Six of the seven above mentioned petitions deal with the spiritual things--only the (the 4th--"give us this day our daily bread") deals with our physical needs.  This shows that God regards the spiritual as more significant than the physical.

4.  In the 4th petition, the word "bread" refers to all physical gifts-- such as, food, drink, cars, money, clothing, health, friends, etc.

5.  A person can "pray without ceasing (without stopping)" in the sense that the Christian desires of his heart are his constant prayer to God.

6.  Temptations can come from God and the devil at the same time.  The only difference is that God seeks to have you overcome temptation while the devil wants you to fall and sin.  (TRY, TEST, and TEMPT all mean the same thing.)
